      It’s not for the faint hearted but when you add sodium metal to liquid ammonia at -78°C it generates a lovely deep blue colour (and I love the colour blue!).

      I really like the experiments we do to show off to students like yourself- we call it The Flash Bang Show! As you might have guessed, it contains a lot of explosions, like the thermite reaction, or the barking dog (safely of course) but there are also cool colour changing experiments and one called elephant toothpaste which is really fun! I’ve never done it, but the Mercury(II) Thiocyanate decomposition reaction looks amazing- you should have a look for it on youtube.
